John Gruber, Daring Fireball:
Stats from Flickr for 2014: the top four camera phones are all iPhones, and among all camera makers, Apple is now second only to Canon. I expect Apple to overtake Canon by 2016, if not this year.
I'm not sure how well this sits with me as a photographer. On the one hand the iPhone has brought the power of photography at a pretty good level of quality to everyone, and that is fantastic. The baseline quality of pictures being taken today has never been higher and the iPhone has played a huge part in that, no doubt.
That said, I think it's led to a general concenous that your smartphone is capable of capturing images so close to the quality of DSLRs that they're pointless for all but the most professional of photographers. The reality is that it couldn't be further from the truth and I worry that it might dissuade people from taking up photography with a real camera seriously, that would be a great shame.
